This week's Black & White inspiration ...

Desperately need the above..
I am in love with cat eye qualities and I prefer that look on myself just because I can barely make my eyes as big and round as I want to for certain looks. Strong and sensual, it's a great look no matter how fast time flies :)

I continue to go back to this inspiration constantly because you can't go wrong with black and white. They last throughout the ages and are easily put into pattern. Whether it's polka-dots, stripes, or even both, I am in love with how these looks really make you feel glamorous when you incorporate it into your own style.

My childhood dreams ~ "Art-ified"

I was always a what you call an "artsy" kid. I grew up constantly delving into dry media, black and white contrasts, illustration, and and avid fan of the Disney movies before Pixar came out. What one could do with just pencil and paper! I mean, it was like the life of me was inside just dying to get out. I just had to find what was around me to use. Pencils!!! Loads and loads of pencils everywhere! I just had to find out what more I could do because "these pencils aren't good enough". I had a huge desire to draw on walls and unfortunately I did not have the chance to do it. One time I even made one slightest mark on the wall with a pencil and then erased it. Eeeek!! I loved the texture of the wall and it was perfect! I mean, this was better than eating cookies... and boy did I love cookies!!!

Thinking back, I really wish I did draw all over the walls. For my college sculpting class I remember making a 2-D mural of sorts on a 2x4 piece of wood. I remember my professor asking me, "Have you ever done graffiti?" and I was in shock because I had no idea what to say. Of course I hadn't done any... but was he encouraging me to do so??? I found out he was!!!! So all I can say is, parents... why not let your children draw on walls? ... you'll never know what it could lead to. Well, hopefully something more than graffiti and maybe more like these inspirations....

My up-to-date favorites that give me the courage to continue to do what I love, seen below...

I know this last one may freak some people out, but it really speaks to me. I think it's the emotion it conveys... something dark and vulnerable...something Innocent...

In Love with the Blues....

Alright, so I didn't realize how many other people tried these looks as well.. But I can't stop loving these hues. I think it goes with so many people and compliments other colors really well. It's like floating in the ocean or seeing the crisp pool water that's just been cleaned. Haha, no.. it's like none of these things...

The Look..."Milla-fied"

For those of you who really know me, I have had one top icon that I have loved since as far as I can remember. She's a model, actress, singer-songwriter, designer, mother, and lots more. She fills her time up with joy and happiness doing the things she loves. I am an avid fan and always will be. Oh my Milla... below she is seen with one of her closest friends and design partner, Sasha.

I think what brings everything together is the fact that I feel she is exactly like me.. as if we were born from the same womb, except for the obvious fact that she is more beautiful than I and has not succumbed to certain reservations due to familial standards. When I am fully myself I see me in her and all the things I could potential become. We are both Sagittarians and have that same desire to create and live in the moment. So then I start to think... where am I going? Am I doing enough? Can I accomplish all my goals? and Why is she so gosh darn pretty inside and out?? :)

One of my favorite movies of hers is DUMMY. I absolutely adore the character she plays and I love the meaning of the story. I think it resonates with me and my internal desires. She has no reservations in the movie and tries to make it in life doing what she loves, while encouraging others to do the same. I think I first saw her in BLUE LAGOON, the sequel, in which she plays an entirely different character. What I love is her humor. She even barks in one of her own songs!

So then, I come across this...
It's Kurt Cobain's daughter, who in this photograph looks exactly like Milla!!!!

Such emotion and feeling in one black and white shot. I like the simplicity of this shoot and the ease at which it looks like it was taken. I think black and white images speak to me the most and in my own art creations, I usually prefer making that type due to the feelings it can portray.

So ultimately, I figure this is how I feel and what I look for. I like the laid-back, grungy, and carefree looks. I like how dark hair contrasts with skin and sharp features. I see this in myself and the images/looks I choose. Everyday I look for inspiration and find that it makes me move forward and have strength to do what it is I need and want to do. A refocus of sorts. Plus here, where I can share my thoughts, I gain insight into the collection of posts I create.

So I come back to questions such as....
Who or What is my inspiration and why?
What was my dream for life? Did I accomplish that? if not, what held me back?
Where do I find beauty and can I see it in myself?
What am I going to do at this point in time? am I pushing myself as far as I can go?

A part of personal style stems from androgynous looks. I love to mix and match items that anyone can wear, especially if they create a reaction among "conservatists" :) I enjoy wearing the occasional suspenders and even tie, which has been a part of my wardrobe for a very long time. It seems like this is supposedly in-style now, which makes me hesitant to wear them anymore... is that weird? Whenever something becomes "in-style" I start to pull away from that and wear something else. Maybe that's a part of my non-conformist attitude when I wake up on the wrong side of the bed, haha.

So here are some looks that I encourage even women to try. Men- these are of course a no brainer for you to try too but, women- You can even feminize it to your own style...

The classic look - black and white, as simple as that. Nothing can go wrong with a solid tie that can go with any look from casual to formal. I love the simplicity of the look which is enhanced by other things you pair it with. For instance in this photograph, the dimension and pattern on the wall really takes one through a complex battle of emotions and depth.

This ultimate mixed pattern, suave look really comes in handy to trip out viewers because no one can really tell what temperature it is just by looking at this picture. I love the Color and comfortable feel, especially with the sun -kissed element. I would also entertain the idea of using different textures as well when completing these looks.

Below, you can see examples of a casual and comfortable looks I like that really embody the laid - back kind of feel that I usually go for. Everyone can benefit from the below colors as well, since they are easily matched and interchangeable colors. The main theme is that both men and women can pull off these styles, while using accents and accessories to complete the look and make it your own. I'm no expert but these are the things I like. Have that blazers in your wardrobe, wear a tie even if its not a formal wear day, and run around with suspenders instead of a belt. My idea is to never say no to gender specific ideas because that's what they are..they are ideas of how genders should dress but keep an eye out for specific elements. One thing I detest is being put into a category. Break free!

The Plaza Kvinna May 2012 Photoshoot

Looks like we're back to floral inspirations that don't involve looking like a Grandmother :) I love this photoshoot due to the fact that florals can really be ageless if you wear them properly. It's all about making your own style and creating fabrics that have rich color. I'm not too fond of pastel florals, but if work the right way depending on the person, maybe it'll work too.

All in all, I think style is whatever you make of it. Anyone who knows me will remember me saying that it's not about what's in style but actually making a style that is your own. I don't believe there is a wrong way to wear things or do's and don'ts because eventually you can break all rules. CONFIDENCE IS KEY!!! I believe that there are also people out there that can truly pull off any style. I guess it's due to the gift of their gene pool...

These images not only capture the feeling of the moment, but also the great use of composition to create a very ethereal, peaceful, and gorgeous look. I want all of these pieces and they are exactly the type of clothing I would have in my closet...

I really love love love this shoot and creative style. Absolutely love the colors and the images are even better with that blond hair!!! Blond hair would probably clash with my skin tone, but oh how do I want it! On my to do list: think about getting blond hair (wink wink)

One of those days...

Rainy, dreary, obstacles... in need of an inspiration

Source: piccsy.com

Today's inspiration comes at a perfect time when physically I have not been feeling well and obstacles have been popping up out of nowhere. This quote is a reminder to me of how we must push ourselves to go forward and jump over the hurtles in our lives. There is no stopping us. We are humans full of power, resources, inconceivable energy and will to survive. When times are hard and motivation is lacking, we must prevail. PREVAIL! Believe in yourself, believe in your strength especially if you feel you have none. The most powerful influence is ourselves, our mind, our schemas.

A day like today, when it's dreary and gloomy, I look for my sources of inspiration to conquer my defeatist attitude. First are the words, then the pictures/images, and finally come my thoughts or overall motivation.

Don't be bogged down by worry or the list of things you have to do. Peace, tranquility, happiness is around us everywhere. Make best of your situation no matter what and look at things in a different light. Reframe your mind. These are things I remind myself even during those positive times. I am fortunate to be inspired and hope to inspire others during my lifetime.

Just turn on the lights...
