WINTER BRIGHTS

(c) EM

Growing up I never really wore bright clothing or outfits with lots of color.  I was the awkward, shy kid with grungy clothing. I didn't want to stand out, I just wanted to blend in or at least be unnoticed. My niece still swears that I only wear dark colors, although it's interesting that she only mentions it on the days that I wear dark outfits. Nowadays, I've grown to appreciate color and texture, but mainly because I can use them in ways that suit me.  I use to think you have to be this bubbly person and smile a lot in order to wear colors. period. Boy was I wrong...  An outfit can still look edgy or grunge if you play the color cards right and on the flip side you can even look like a princess... if you wanted to.  Just remember it's all about personal style, so shine through!

Bright colors shouldn't be left only for the warmer seasons. It's odd how mood really does change according to what colors we perceive. This patterned dress was warm enough for the chilled air, while also showcasing a pattern suitable for the winter season.  Paired with a textured hat and a bright blazer, I was ready to go.  Complete the look with your favorite long-length coat with some boots and smile away :)

Lunar New Year Style Red

Lunar New Year aka Chinese New year is tomorrow, which is a glorious celebration for some people out there even for those who are not Chinese. Dragons, firecrackers, food, and loads of red & gold colors! So I thought I'd give a little RED inspiration for those who plan to make this their theme for the New Year celebration tomorrow.  Perhaps the decision is made and pink will be the themed color for Valentine's day, since they are  within a week of each other. hmmm....

Let's Get Some Blues UP in HErE!!!!

The weather has been a bomb the past two days with rain and clouds. Definitely not late June weather at all.

Weather really sets up my mood and own sense of style. My basic thought process when it comes to picking out something to wear.... what's the weather? Is it raining?- then no white, is it hot?- then possible shorts or tank, Is it a formal/casual day? Will I be comfortable? Can the outfit transition from day to night if needed? Also, will I be taking public transportation?- related to the type of shoe and non-creeper-driven outfit choice.

Changes in weather, mood, and season all are factors each day. Granted, I'm not going to worry too much over it.

You really can't go wrong with the blues...

Above: Great summer time look. Layers can be worn and patterns don't make you look too busy or heavy. In combination with white clothes, you can also have an easier time picking out different accessories to change up your look from day to night.

Above: Another great casual look bringing dyed shirts and Jean button downs back in style. What's great about this look is how anyone can take these simple elements and make them your own. Think about the type of accessories you want to complete your look. For instance, large and bright neon accessories can make you look more retro, choosing metals and heavy accessories can make a hipster/punk look, or simple stylish accessories can make the look more sophisticated casual. Lastly, don't forget the hair. The type and style of hair completes the look!

Above: This look is a more themed approach. I love the colors and a great loungy Look for when you just want to relax. It's for the lazy days where someone pops on over unexpectedly and you say, "What? Oh really?? I didn't know you were coming and I had this on."

Above : If you want more elegant and summer, this is your look. It's a very feminine approach. Elegant and comfortable without being too fancy, this look can easily go from morning to night without doing much except possibly changing makeup and hair.

The last Bottom two are pretty much self explanatory. I couldn't leave out the hair and spikey lover's. I also had to put in the last one for those deep strict fashion editorial lovers.

Make Mee Up!!

I believe in beauty in all things.. yes.. corny.
However, this has led me to love one's facial canvas!!! No matter who you are, male or female, there is something lying there... something that can be brought out.. something under the surface. The weird thing is, like one of my professors had said in the past, "There's even beauty in the fact that it is truly ugly." Hahaha I will always remember that. So what was that ugly thing that he was referring to, you might ask??? My piece of art sculpture. Yup yup. So I thus have a perspective that may differ from some and may be loved by others.

I have been asked by family and friends to provide some consultation, try some makeup ideas on them, and even make them over by way of hair or face. Granted, I'm no professional, I don't think you have to be in order to try things out or even be good at it. Professionals have it great since they probably know more techniques, supplies, etc., but new eyes and inspiration always help too. I myself, truly despise wearing makeup. I do wear it when there's occasion or to cover up the lack of beauty sleep and toxic chemicals that I have built in my body of sugary sweets at times. I can't help it if I'm in close proximity to food... but that's another topic. Here's some of my inspiration and what I think works--

Above: I truly love the contrast among the lips, eyes and hair color. Great styling and photograph! This is a great summer look because the makeup doesn't look heavy at all, such a great quality. The look is lightweight yet rich at the same time!

Try A Frosty Look!

Above: I want to walk into a Christmas party like this. Yes, I do. It's on my to-do-list as we speak :P Frosty is a hard look. You really have to think about color AND texture, otherwise the look can go wrong. The only thing I would be afraid of, would be to walk into the X-mas party and have everyone stare at me because one of my lashes fell into the food :x Eek!

For those who are willing to stay neutral...

Anyone can wear a barely there look. But what makes this one great?? It's all in the dark eyeliner. Make sure you emphasize the blackness and the thickness to make your eyes pop. The shape of the liner is crucial in this case because it enhances the size and shape of your eyes. Pick the look you're looking for first!! Also, don't look dead. Even though you may want a clean and fresh faced look, give some life to your face. I've been in a very pink and corally mood these days :)
